WHAT TO EXPECT AT YOUR FIRST APPOINTMENT

 

At your first appointment, your therapist will conduct an initial assessment.  This time allows you to consult with your therapist about the concerns and challenges that prompted you to schedule an appointment with us.  History and consent forms will have been emailed for you to complete prior to coming to our office, but there are a few more forms which must be completed at the time of your appointment, so please arrive at lieast 15 minutes early.  (You may also download and complete the forms using the links below.)  Expect your first appointment to last between 60 and 90 minutes.

The goal of your first appointment is to review your history and concerns, and then to collaborate with your therapist to determine an appropriate course of treatment.  It is important to understand that progress toward your goals will depend largely on your active participation in treatment, and your willingness to apply what you learn in session to your daily life and interactions with others.  Changing personal habits and routines, developing new coping skills, and adopting a healthier view of yourself and your world can be challenging.  Your therapist will support you throughout the process and help you discover your own peace of mind.
